Having a safe home is paramount, especially if you live in a more remote area with a growing family or are the sole occupant spending a lot of time home alone. Whether you live in a busy city, near the countryside or have a detached house amidst acres of farmland, when it comes to security, it’s all the same. Buying or renting a home is one of the most important investments you can make, and you’ll naturally want to protect it in the best way possible: and that’s where home security systems come in.
Below are just a few ideas on how you can make your home more secure.
Install a Security System
An overall security system is one of the most critical elements you can incorporate into your home, such as an adequate house alarm. Not only will it enable your home to be more secure, but it will give you peace of mind, too. Security systems come in a variety of different forms and price options, so you’ll need to analyze the amount of security your home needs, based on size, outside space and overall requirements of you and your family. It’s also essential to analyze the security demands of your neighborhood, too, such as level of crime rates and what your neighbors are doing to maintain the safety of their homes.
There are many things you can do to install a security system yourself, but it’s a good option to employ a professional to install the system, that way you know it has been done efficiently. Professional security systems may also offer other benefits, like fire alarms, which is why comparing the best security systems is vital.
Secure Your WiFi Network
Most people neglect the security of their internet when thinking of their home safety, as it isn’t as obvious as locking the doors and securing the windows. Your WiFi network, however, is an important gateway into your personal and financial information. It’s essential to protect your WiFi from outside hackers, especially if you are using a wireless network. The best way to do this is to invest in a firewall and antivirus protection, as well as hiding your home network and creating a strong, impenetrable password.
If you have a family with younger children or teenagers, it’s also important to teach them about safe WiFi usage, and so they understand not to tell any outside sources the details of their network or its password.
Invest in Security Cameras
One of the best features of security cameras is that they are visible – meaning any potential criminals will be able to see them and be deterred. If the worst were to happen, however, security cameras also enable a means to provide evidence and bring the person responsible to justice. Security cameras can be coupled with your complete home security system, or you can have them as standalone options to further your home security. You can choose a variety of durable options, such as waterproof casing, and also have them work via motion detection.
Light It Up
Criminals will love dark spaces and shadows, and see potential in those homes which don’t have adequate outdoor lighting. It’s a good idea to install lights around your main doors, along the front pathway if you have one, and generally scattered in the garden or outside space. You can save money (and the environment) by opting for solar-powered lighting, too.
Motion-sensor lights are a great choice to install outside your property as well.
It’s also a good idea to leave a light or lamp on in your home if you are spending the evening out, to give the impression that somebody is at home and it hasn’t been left empty and vulnerable.
Having adequate lighting is also an important safety feature for you and your family, as it provides a means to safely travel outside your property during the darker months or darker times of the day, preventing trips and falls.
Consider a Home Safe
It’s important to plan for any eventuality, which unfortunately includes the possibility of an intruder finding their way into your home. In this event, it’s crucial to ensure your valuables and personal documents such as passports and financial information are secured, and a home safe is the perfect investment to do so. The best option is an anchored, fitted safe which can’t be moved or taken out of the house by the intruder. Also ensure it’s big enough to fit everything in which you need to store.
Trade fairs can be a tricky endeavor. Potential customers are walking around with swag bags from a variety of vendors with items they may never even look at, much less use. So how do you stand out amongst the crowd and create not only name recognition but also the opportunity for a future sale? Below are five ways to stand out among thousands of other vendors at a trade fair:
1. Provide Unforgettable Promotional Products
Every booth at a trade fair is going to offer a promotional product. Typically, a company buys a few different items and offers them until they run out. If you want to hand out some unforgettable promotional products, do a little research. Check out the booths of all your competitors at the first trade fair of the year and see what they are offering. They are most likely going to be offering that thing all year. Then, research in hand, create some radically different promotional products branded with your company logo. Get creative! What would capture your attention at one of these events? Make that.
2. Offer to Charge Cell Phones
Trade fairs can consume the whole day, and people are busy texting, talking, answering email, and checking their social media during the affair. One easy way to drive some traffic to your booth that will either stay a while or return a second time is to offer cell phone charging stations. Take advantage of those drained phone batteries to create a conversation with potential customers.
3. Create an Interactive Experience
Encourage participants to visit your booth by creating an interactive experience with your brand. If your product line is broad, create a questionnaire to help potential customers understand which of your products will meet their needs. Allow them to engage with it on their cellphones or a touch screen in the booth. If your product lends itself to an in-person experience, invest in some virtual reality headsets and offer the opportunity to try it out.
4. Pull a Stunt
Create a buzz around your booth by pulling a noteworthy stunt. Find something relevant to your business that would capture the attention of trade fair attendees. Maybe you could bring in some actors and create a soap opera about your business that airs live every hour. Perhaps a puppet show might get people laughing. Maybe you can convince the keynote speaker to let you pull a humorous stunt during his address. The only limit, aside from decency, is your imagination.
5. Utilize Social Media
Even though people are at the trade show in person, you can still drive them to your booth by utilizing the power of social media. Start early, before the show by creating hashtags and social media campaigns that will make them want to visit your booth to be part of what is trending. During the trade show, take advantage of people checking in to their various social media apps to geotarget them with ads about your booth.
If you want to stand out at a trade show amidst thousands of other vendors, you must be memorable, helpful, and meet people where they gather. Be memorable by creating unforgettable promotional products, pulling a stunt, or creating an interactive experience with your brand. Be helpful by offering to charge attendee cell phones. Meet people where they gather on social media by creating compelling campaigns and geotargeting. The more creative you can be about your presence, the more likely you are to draw in potential customers.

While it may not be something that comes to mind as an IT professional or even a tech-savvy person, many people don’t know how to properly take care of a USB-C cable. The fact of the matter is, like any piece of tech, a USB cable will break or deteriorate. What you have control of as a user, though, is how often that happens. The last thing you want is having to bend your USB cable a certain way or come up with a jury-rig just to keep your devices charged and functioning while you’re traveling or don’t have time to buy a replacement. So, whether you just need to charge your phone or are managing a USB C to DVI connection, here’s how to keep things working.
As a start, you want to make sure you wrap your USB Type-C cables correctly. Every single USB-C cable is made out of a series of wires twisted with each other. This is the case with all cables, and in some cases, they may be complex, while for others, they may be simpler. All cables generally have some sort of copper wire inside a plastic sheath, and it’s this copper wire where things can start to go wrong. While they’re designed to be functional, that’s not the same thing as invincible. Over time, these copper strands can break, leading to eventual failure. Improperly wrapping or handling your USB-C cables can speed this process.
One of the worst things you can do is surprisingly something that people do out of habit, wrapping a cable around your arm, wrist, or hand. The proper way to do this is by wrapping the cable in a loose circle, making sure to follow the cable’s natural curve. This can be difficult to follow without video support, but there are a lot of guides to help you understand the best way to take care of your USB-C cables.
For shorter cables, you can use what’s called the over-over method. This entails making a cable loop in the same direction rather than trying to alternate. If you give the cable a half-turn with your fingertips, you’ll follow the copper coil’s natural curve.
If you’re wondering where exactly cables tend to fail, a lot of the time, it tends to be at the end, near the USB-C connector. A lot of this is due to the way that people use them, as they’re naturally likely to deal with the most stress. For example, yanking or bending your cable while it’s plugged in may not mean much once, but a history of doing this will wear out the cable before its time.
For USB-C in particular, it’s also important to make sure that you’re buying a proper cable from your brand. A lot of the reason for this is that the specs you see on say, an Amazon listing page may not match what you see in person. This can be frustrating when it comes to getting the data transfer speeds or powers that you want. Generally, the price gap between buying these and from a brand you can trust isn’t big enough to take this risk.
We mentioned wrapping earlier, but it’s also important that you take the time to store your USB-C cables correctly also. Many tech lovers may have their box of cables full of tangled options, and while this is common, it doesn’t make it ideal. Imagine having to untangle this web every time you need a cable. One way to get around this is through buying a cable case. Larger ones can hold 3 or more, while smaller ones hold 1 or 2, so find the best fit for your needs.
If you don’t want a separate cable box, there is still is a proper way to store your cables. Start after you wrap them correctly, then keep them secure with a velcro tie or old twist tie. After this, try and emulate storing records or CBD but putting cables of similar sizes next to each other. If you have smaller cables, you can be a little more creative and organize them in grid boxes, plastic containers, or by hooks, whatever matches your needs and space.
While it may sound silly at first, when it comes to your USB-C cables, if you have a longer one and it is charging something, make sure that you don’t step on it. Even if it doesn’t look to have any visual issues on the outside, any impact put on a cable can lead to a breakdown of the small fibers inside. As a result, make sure that you watch your feet. In situations like studios where they may be many cables lying around, gaffer tape can help secure the cable as well as provide a visual warning. The same thing also applies to rolling over the cables, so if you are charging something while you are in bed, make sure to remove it before you doze off.
The organization also matters here. Sorting your cables may not make them last longer (except keeping them from getting crushed under a pile) but it will help to protect various cables from getting lost or having them get wedged into edges. Again, it’s all about preventing you from needing another cable without notice.
Taking proper care of your USB-C cables also includes making sure you don’t go overboard with your USB C dongle or dongles. A lot of the time, connecting different dongles and creating a cable tangle can cause a lot of issues when it comes to managing your cables. Even if it doesn’t necessarily mean wear and tear, a lot of the time, this makes your station/machine more difficult to operate, especially if you need to swap things out. A good way to get around this is through a docking station, allowing you to run multiple peripherals with one cable.

You use different techniques to attract people’s attention and make them buy the products you offer. You can go online and publish ads through social media. You can also take the traditional route and advertise in public places. Using pull up banners is an excellent idea. It might seem like a thing of the past, but many people still feel excited about reading the information on display stands.
Another reason is that many people feel connected to a brand that advertises locally. They think that the company is trying to connect with local audiences and become a part of the community. Therefore, if you are going in this direction, you are doing a good job.
The only problem is that you cannot expect everyone to stop by and read the information on the banners. People are too busy, and they will not pay attention to something that does not deserve it. These tips will help make the banners look attractive to your target audience.
Highlight promotions and deals
Let us face it, people are practical, and they will only pay attention to things that will help them financially. If your banners tell them that they are going to get a good deal or a discount, they will most likely patronise your brand. Highlight these deals on the banners and convince people that there is something more if they decide to buy your products.
Use interesting images
You can make people feel curious about the banners if you use exciting photos. They could even be quite controversial as long as they are still safe to use in public. People will have a closer look at the banners because of the images. Once they are up close, they will continue reading the rest of the information.
Choose the best locations
The area where you are going to erect the banners also matters. You want it to be a crowded area, but not one where people will only walk by. You need a place where many people pass by, but still, have the time to pause and look around. You also need to avoid areas where there are too many ads for people to read. They might skip yours and feel enticed with a banner standing next to it.
Keep changing your ads
You need to track the attention given by your target audience to the banners. If you think people are starting to lose interest, you need to come up with something new. It helps if you keep changing the ads to maintain people’s interest.
These are some strategies that will increase attention for the display banners that you use to advertise your brand. You can brainstorm with your employees to determine what else you can do in future ad campaigns so that people will continue to be interested. You also need to check if there is an increase in your sales corresponding to the use of the banners for advertising.

Inductive sensors used to be expensive and required complicated circuitry, making them a less than favourable solution for widespread applications. In recent years, however, a surge in technological advancements has allowed for the production of inductive sensors with high levels of integration; thus, making it possible to adapt mainstream position sensor technology for various uses.
The historical application of inductive sensors was in industrial machines such as in counting the teeth of a gear or for contactless distance measurement. Because of the more complex assembly, inductive sensors such as those manufactured by http://www.positek.com were not common outside industrial-type applications.
The primary working principle of inductance sensing begins with a tank circuit containing an inductor-capacitor assembly. The tank circuit receives power from an oscillator, and the inductor part of the device is fabricated using a sensing coil. When a metal object with conducting capacity is close to the coil, the object produces an eddy current which corresponds to the distance, size, and material of the object.
Modern inductive sensors have many applications. Perhaps the main advantage of using inductive sensors over other sensing technologies is the inherent ruggedness of the assembly. An inductive sensor is contactless, hence does not degrade when subject to vibration, dust, and corrosive materials. Specific examples of applications for this sensor technology are the following:
These are only a few of the typical applications of inductive sensors in industrial settings.
Advantages of inductive sensing technology
Since inductive sensors are inherently robust, they are suitable for any application where the assembly is subject to harsh working conditions. Extreme temperature changes, underwater pressure, and high friction are some conditions that can easily compromise the performance of a sensor, but an inductive sensor can work optimally even when subject to these factors.
Non-contact inductive sensors tend to have a longer lifespan, which makes it an economical solution because it minimises the need for replacement. When it comes to performance parameters, an inductive sensor produces highly reliable, and accurate readings.
Possible drawbacks of using inductive sensors
Despite the superiority of inductive sensors, there are still challenges faced by engineers such as the limited sensing range. Apart from this, an inductive sensor is only suitable when the assembly is connected to a metallic object being measured.
In conclusion, inductive position sensing is one of the preferred methods of sensor technology used in the industrial sector. When it comes to machine automation, subsea applications, heavy equipment, process-control machines, and automotive sensing, inductive sensors provide a reliable solution as a robust device which can withstand extreme working conditions. Manufacturers continue to experiment in using new materials and designs to make inductive sensors a mainstream choice for other industries. In the meantime, it is safe to conclude that for industrial applications, inductive sensors are by far, one of the best position sensing technology options available today.

Some of our grandparents are more down with the latest tech than other grandparents. They have smartphones, know how to browse the internet for the latest news and even have their Facebook accounts. But, does it depend on which country you live on whether the older population have confidents with the latest technology? Acorn Stairlifts, retailers of stair lifts look at the latest figures:
Nowadays, a lot of us couldn’t imagine life without internet access. You probably use it to read the latest news, check the weather forecast or use it hourly at work. But, is the older generation as reliant on the World Wide Web?
In the UK, research has showed that 41% of adults aged 75 and over had used the internet when they were asked. This illustrates a 20% increase since 2011, showing how widespread the internet has become over the past seven years.
Compared with the older generation in the US, figures show that 64% of over 65s were internet users in 2016. There was also a 46.4% growth reported in US internet users over the age of 55 from 2014 to 2017, with around half of American seniors say that they now have high-speed internet at home. This is a 4% increase on 2013.
Still, not everyone is using the internet yet, only 44% of those age 80+ said that they used the internet and 28% said they had a home broadband service.
Figures in Germany, showed that only 29.6% of mobile internet users were aged 50 and above in January 2017 and in France, 48% of people aged over 70 were internet users in 2016. Compare this to the 100% of internet users who were aged 12-17 and it’s clear to see the generation gap when it comes to getting online. In Belgium, 35% of the population that were aged between 65 and 74 admitted that they had never used the internet at all.
What about in Canada, where there are now more over 65s than under 14s? In 2019, experts forecast that 53.4% of over 65s will be internet users. And, in the technological hub of Japan, 44.3% of over 80s who accessed the internet said that they did so at least once a day, along with 48% of those aged 70-79.
For a lot of us, the internet is the main way that we stay connected with the rest of the world. Through Twitter and Facebook, people can read instantaneous news from their local area and worldwide. And, with downloadable apps, smartphone users can receive notifications of the latest headlines. Is the older generation accessing news in the same way?
21% of over 50s in the UK, said that they get their daily news from social networks. This could mean logging onto Facebook to see what the latest status’ are or checking what’s trending on Twitter. In the US, this number rose to 26% with 70% of older Facebook users saying that they log in to the site daily. In fact, there has been a reported change in the demographics of Facebook users — with the number of 12-17-year-olds who use the site declining by 9.9% in 2017.
Comparing with elderly people across Europe, only 9% of over 50s in Germany said that they get their daily news from social networks and 34% said that they get their daily news from the internet. In France and Italy, 13% of the mature generation stated that they went to social media sites for their news.
These figures in Canada seemed relatively high with 25% of over 50s heading over to social networks to find the latest headlines.
Smartphones and Tablets
We get instant access to the internet from our smartphones and tablets which enables them to be used widespread. Many of us have these tiny touchscreen devices at hand which can answer to our queries, connect us with friends and provide us with useful information at the tap of our fingers. Has the older generation realised the potential of these devices?
45% of over 55s in the UK used a smartphone in 2016. This seems like quite a significant figure, however, when you compare it to the fact that 97% of under 25s used a smartphone, it’s clear to see how age affects behavior.
32% of over 65s in the UK and 20s of over 8-s said that they owned a tablet computer and 19% said that they owned an e-reader.
It’s important for older people to reach out for help and direction using a new device. Around three-quarters of Americans over 65 said that the statement, ‘When I get a new electronic device, I usually need someone else to set it up or show me how to use it,’ describes them very, or somewhat well. Also, only 26% of older internet users said that they felt very confident.
Many assume that older people don’t understand technology and are not willing to learn how to use then, however findings have proven different. In fact, 58% of adults aged 65 and over said that technology has had a mostly positive impact on society. Of course, it can depend on annual income and disposable income as to whether an elderly person owns a smart device — 81% of older Americans who earned over $75,000 said that they owned a smartphone while only 27% of those who earned less than $30,000 owned one.
For many of us, we’ve welcomed technological advancements to help with banking and quick payments in stores and restaurants. With one simple tap of the debit card, something can be paid for instantaneously.
Barclay had said in UK, 20% of contactless users are 65 and over, which suggests that they are welcoming the new system. More people are jumping on board too, 55% of over 65s have used the tap to pay service, up 3% from 2016. Saga supported this research too, saying that one in five over 50s use their contactless cards up to three times per week.
So, as we’ve learned, the technological habits of the mature generation changes from country to country. Eventually, it’s likely that the majority of the older population will understand the benefits of technology and come to accept it as a way of life. In the meantime, younger people should be educating their elders on how to use the devices and how it could enhance their daily activities.

Sensors have been instrumental in technological advancements for many decades now, and many conventional devices consist of sensors as a vital part of automation. In many ways, sensors help make life more comfortable, and most people are not aware of the importance of sensors in their daily lives. Take for example the opening and closing of elevators doors, the auto-rotate function of mobile phones, and the automatic function of street lights. All of these seemingly mundane items have sensors that are integral to how they work.
To understand what a sensor is, you’ll need to begin by identifying different sensor categories and their working principles. Sensors vary in sizes and measure various parameters. You’ll also distinguish them by the technology used by sensor manufacturers such as http://www.positek.com. Some manufacturers produce sensors using a non-contact or inductive technology, while others produce traditional sensors used for less rugged applications.
Identifying sensors according to application
Sensors measure different environmental parameters that impact an object or device. Whether used for controlling processes or as a safety feature, below are different sensors categories and their specific applications:
Although sensors are standard in everyday electronic devices, there are modern applications of sensors that are giving way to a promising future. Modern robotics would not be possible without sensors, and many studies are being conducted to harness the possibility of using robotics to improve human lives.
Undoubtedly, sensors will continue to shape technology as we know it today. Industrial machines used in food production, transportation, medical research, and pharmaceuticals significantly benefit from advanced forms of sensors with enhanced features and capabilities. Engineers are also experimenting with using different materials which make sensors more robust and durable while improving functionality. Today, sensors are used in some of the most rugged conditions to explore underwater ecosystems which can yield discoveries that will fuel the modern world in the years to come.
Many brands today set aside a sizeable chunk of the operations budget for the development and installation of critical software. Cloud computing provides an alternative which allows your business to gain access to such software over the internet whilst also providing a robust and safe approach to data sharing and storage. Managed cloud brings a new layer of flexibility as it allows your brand to deploy cloud computing while the day to day management of the setups and systems are outsourced. This piece takes a look at important things you need to know about managed cloud.
With managed cloud computing, members of your staff can gain access to important software, data and systems from any part of the world to quickly complete important tasks. This can improve the overall productivity of your brand.
Various Options to Choose From
Regardless of the size of your business or your focus, you can find a tailor-made managed cloud computing solution. The three main categories of cloud computing are Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The option you choose will depend on your specific needs as a business.
More Efficient Budgeting
Setting up a data centre for your brand can be expensive. Apart from spending money on the purchase of the right equipment, you still need to find and retain the right experts for the installations and day to day management of the systems. With managed cloud computing on the other hand, you will be working with systems and technicians that are already in place. Additionally, managed cloud solutions providers charge based on the features you need, the memory space, storage space, number of users you have and other such metrics so you will only have to pay for the exact resources you need. This will allow you to better allocate your finances.
In many cases, managed cloud computing provides more robust security than what physical servers and data centres can offer. If laptops or hard drives are compromised in a physical data centre, company data can get into the wrong hands. In the era of GDPR, this could also come with sanctions and fines. Breaching the security in a physical data centre could be as simple as a break and entry. Breaching the security measures on a cloud computing platform, on the other hand, is more difficult.
The only way for some brands to plan for future growth is to put things in place well ahead of time. On the computing front, this means buying more storage, servers, licenses and so on. Unfortunately, since there is no way to be sure about growth projections being met, this could mean putting down capital for resources that may not be used for a couple of years at least. Managed cloud computing deals with this challenge by allowing you to increase your capacity as a business by simply upgrading your package.
